We are living in a society where stress and anxiety are part and parcel of our lives and which diminish our potentialities. So life is now more challenging and complicated than the immediate past era. Meditation may be a panacea against those problems. Through meditation one can not only have a stress-free life but also a sound body and mind. People who do meditation regularly have a sound mind and healthy body. The Time magazine in its 8th August edition published an article terming meditation as a 'mindful revolution'.
Several studies have been carried out in the West, which found astounding results and still many study are going on meditation. When people do meditate, the secretion of stress-related hormone gets slower and secretion of happiness-related hormone flow gets momentum.
A study carried out in the USA suggests that 75 per cent of our diseases are psychosomatic and those diseases can be cured by meditation. For example, hypertension, asthma, heart diseases, diabetic, back pain etc are curable through meditation and there is no need for medication or drug for those psychosomatic diseases. Meditation can also slow down the aging process, fortify the immune system, invigorate body and mind, protect memory from losing out to older age or amnesia and help remain evergreen. The study shows that people who do meditation regularly need visiting a doctor's chamber fewer times than those who do not practise meditation.
Now the questions is, what is meditation? How can one master this technique? Meditation is a technique where one will go through visualisation of one's body and nature and also have to embark on a breathing practice. It is a process through which one can relax one's body and mind. Half an hour's meditation will egergize one's body and mind and give celestial peace.
It is more appropriate to practise meditation under a mentor. There are many meditation centers in Bangladesh. Among them, the pioneer is quantum foundation which has been conducting meditation courses for new learners. Meditation is science. Anybody can acquire a sound body and mind, success and a peaceful life by practising this technique in a proper manner. Bangladesh hypertension society has included meditation in its policy to curb the disease. Very recently a government initiative has been taken for prisoners to practise meditation in order for them to return to normal life. In the Western world more research and experiment are carried out on cancer and HIV patients with astonishing results. Promotion of meditation especially among the youths will help them lead a morally sound life.
