Menacing drug addiction
January 31, 2015 00:00:00
Drug addiction has assumed ominous proportions in our society, particularly among the young people. We must fight to drive away this menace and save our young generation from its deadly effects. Public and private universities are not immune from this menacing habit and drug traders are earning a good profit out of it. Many powerful and wealthy people are also known to be drug addicts. The law enforcing agencies have a big role to play in controlling and finally eradicating this evil from society. Sadly, some members of these agencies are reported to be involved in the drug trade along with some members of the party in power.
Yaba, for example, is very popular among the drug addicts. Use of this innocuous looking tablet is fast spreading. It is very difficult for the law enforcing agencies to identify yaba, as the drug peddlers can easily conceal it. We need to help the law enforcing agencies to find out the sources of yaba supply. More importantly, awareness should be created among the common people so that they stay away from this addiction on one the hand and prevent our young generation from being addicts, on the other. Further spread of such addiction will lead to social unrest and lawlessness. The government needs to take stern action to dig out the big fishes of the drug trade and uproot drug business altogether from society.
