Mild earthquake shakes Delhi

November 27, 2007 00:00:00

NEW DELHI, Nov 26 (AFP): A 'light' earthquake rocked the Indian capital New Delhi before dawn Monday, sending residents running outside for safety, the weather office and correspondents said.
The epicentre of the quake, which hit 4.3 on the Richter scale, was at nearby Bahadurgarh along the capital territory's border with Haryana state, said metereological department official RC Bhasin.
"The earthquake occurred at 4.42am Monday morning. It was of light intensity so we don't expect much damage," Bhasin said.
But many residents, who were shaken from their sleep as buildings rocked for a few seconds, stayed outdoors fearing aftershocks, correspondents reported.
The tremors were also felt in the satellite townships of Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad.
