Mobile banking: An emerging sector
August 08, 2015 00:00:00
Mobile banking has become one of the most popular banking methods in a short span of time. But unfortunately, it has been recently hit by the miscreants. The criminals are using the process to extort money. Mobile banking is indeed a revolutionary idea which has made banking and money transactions very easy for the unbanked poor. But fine-tuning is required in this sector so that it is not invaded by criminals and particularly the people of remote areas can enjoy its benefits.
Most people of our country do not enjoy banking facility and mobile banking is a blessing for them. Mobile banking is growing fast in our country and is now the most popular banking service. It is very handy and we can do a number of activities with it, like buying mobile airtime, paying bills, buying bus and train tickets etc. As for myself, I don't carry much cash in my pocket nowadays, as I know that I can draw money from my mobile bank account anywhere anytime. If mobile banking is made secure, it will encourage greater number of people to use it. Surely a bright future lies ahead for mobile banking and the Bangladesh Bank should ensure the much needed discipline in the sector so that it can continue to play an important role in our economy.
