Modern-day slavery

October 21, 2014 00:00:00

It is shocking to know about modern-day slavery in Thailand. Thai authorities rescued 171 people, mostly Bangladeshis, from a rubber plant in deep forest. Every year hundreds of men, women and children are trafficked from our country and they live a miserable life in different parts of the world. Frauds offer lucrative employment to naïve people in exchange of hefty sum of money and then trafficked to live an inhuman life in foreign lands.  We are yet to implement the rules which will ensure the elimination of human trafficking. Those who are involved in human trafficking must face severest punishment. Mass awareness about the dangers of unsafe migration should be increased. Job seekers abroad should seek safe migration through proper channels. Those who have lived inhuman lives in foreign lands should tell their story through the media so that the common people are aware about the lurking dangers of unsafe migration.
