WITH its peak breeding season from November to March, mosquito menace has begun to haunt citizens of the capital. What needs to be pointed out is that the responsibility to control this menace lies with the two city corporations of Dhaka and both have failed on that account. Mosquitoes are now everywhere. Be it an air-conditioned airport, hospital, open space and slums. The tiny insect has unleashed a reign of terror across the country and things are deteriorating everyday.
The main problem behind the failure to remove mosquitoes from the city is perhaps limited budget that does not allow the corporations to buy adequate spray and equipment for the purpose. It is essential that budgets for both city corporations should be increased. As citizens we cannot evade our civic responsibilities in this regard. We should not leave our surroundings untidy and unclean and allow mosquitoes to have an uninterrupted growth.
