Mugging and helpless citizenry

Dhaka is known as the city of mosques and the City of rickshaws. But now it has come to be known as a city of pollution and rampant mugging. Most of the mugging incidents remain unreported as most of the victims either do not dare or feel encouraged to report the incidents to the law enforcing agencies, as they know that the criminals will not be arrested and put behind the bars. As a result, the muggers have become so desperate that they don't wait for day lights to fade and then indulge in their murky business in broad day light. Few days back a housewife was dragged to the death by the muggers in Dhanmondi in the broad daylight. Our Dhaka city has 351 mugging spots as per the report of the police intelligence. The law enforcing agencies should increase their vigilance in those spots which are known as mugging prone spots, so that our city can become a safe place for its citizens. Security is the foremost concern of the citizens without which they cannot enjoy any other rights. Expensive cars are used by the muggers sometimes and it seems a section of rich brats are engaged in these activities to earn some extra money for them to afford drugs or alcohol. Many of these rich brats seek adventure by mugging people and they know even if they are caught they will be taken out easily by their influential parents. It is high time that we make our city safe at any cost.
