Munshiganj needs a medical college

November 15, 2014 00:00:00

There is a huge demand for physicians in Bangladesh to provide medical care to ailing people in the country. Besides, for earning foreign currency, the country needs skilled professionals who can undertake overseas employment. Creating physician will reduce employment problem as well. We all speak of imparting professional and technical education, but little progress has been made so far. There is no engineering institution or university in Munshiganj, whereas it is the nearest district town to capital Dhaka. One can reach Munshiganj within an hour by road from the capital. On the other hand, it takes more than two hours to travel from north end to south end in Dhaka metropolis. Munshiganj can be a good destination for setting up a full-fledged hospital to serve patients and a medical college for imparting medical education.

No doubt, it will increase health services of the local people as well as the fellow citizens. There are enough teachers in the country who can teach medical studies to students. In this situation, a medical college could be set up close to Munshiganj government hospital. In that case the existing hospital is to be expanded. We urge the government to set up a medical college in Munshiganj.
