Museums should be free for students

Shilpacharya Zainul Folk Arts and Crafts Museum, also known as Sonargaon Jadughar, is one of the most popular tourist spots of Bangladesh. Many local and foreign visitors visit this museum every day. The artefacts related to the heritage, culture and tradition of Bengal from the 17th century and other things of historical and cultural importance are being displayed in this museum. It is also a memento of legendary artist Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin. Every year, a number of educational institutions and students organise a tour or excursion to this historical spot.

However during my recent visit to the museum, I found that the entry fee of the museum was too much for a student. Paying Tk 50 per person is not affordable for many students. In comparison to Lalbagh Fort and Ahsan Manzil Museum, the entry fee to Sonargaon Jadughar is higher. In my view, the entry fee to all museums in Bangladesh should be free for students. They should be allowed to enter a museum by showing their identity cards.
