Another unfortunate and disgraceful incident took place in the country. A frantic mob vandalised several shops and set a house on fire at Dighalia Bazar of Lohagara Upazila in Naralil district. These were all Hindu property. Miscreants also vandalised a temple in the locality and attacked two other family temples. All these happened in the evening on Friday last. The allegation was that a college student posted a blasphemous comment about the Prophet Muhammad (S). The student was also arrested on Saturday following a case filed by a resident of Dighalia.
Attacking and vandalising the houses, temples and property of the Hindus is unacceptable. The whole community should not be punished for a misdeed or crime of an individual. Unfortunately, a section of Muslims is doing so without considering the consequence. Such an attack undermines the rights of victims who are also citizens of the country. It is the duty of the sensible people belonging to the religious majority to resist such attacks. No one is above the law. Exemplary punishment should be meted out to culprits to avoid any such incident in the future.
