NATO soldier killed in Afghan bombing

August 28, 2007 00:00:00

KABUL, Aug 27 (AFP): A NATO soldier was killed in a Taliban-type bombing in southern Afghanistan, becoming the second alliance trooper to die at the weekend, the multinational force said Monday.
Another soldier was injured in the blast on Sunday in southern Afghanistan, a region hard hit by a Taliban-led insurgency that has grown sharply over the past two years.
The 37-nation International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) did not release the nationalities of the latest casualties, leaving this announcement to their home nation.
Most of the international soldiers in southern Afghanistan are from Britain, Canada or the United States.
The casualties occured when a patrol was struck by an "improvised explosive device"-easily built bombs that are a weapon of choice for the extremist Taliban movement that was toppled from government in late 2001.
