Need for automatic traffic control in city

February 28, 2021 00:00:00

Traffic congestion on city roads is increasing day by day. Lives of daily commuters continue to become miserable with so much of valuable time being wasted on the road every day. The traffic signal system in the city has apparently broken down completely. According to a recent report, Dhaka city reels from traffic mess, as two of its city corporations are running without any traffic engineers, responsible for road and signal design, and other remedial measures. It is unfortunate that not a single traffic signal proves to be functional in the capital while police are operating the signals by waving hands. The traffic lights, bought with millions of taka provided by the World Bank (WB), serve only as decorative purposes because the vehicles and pedestrians are controlled by traffic police's hand gestures. Some traffic lights are out of order while others are not functional and most importantly, nobody cares about these lights.

If we want to make Dhaka city liveable and commuter-friendly, it must have an automatic traffic signal system, which is possible only through making these traffic lights functional.
