Need for exclusive TV censor board
October 15, 2022 00:00:00
Television has become a part of our daily lives. People of all ages watch it every day. Some television programmes are available on platforms like YouTube and they can be watched at any time. TV programmes are not only entertaining but also educative. However, some channels have recently started telecasting objectionable contents in the name of TV series and plays. A few programmes are so provocative and salacious in nature that they are embarrassing to watch with family members. I think there is no active censor board in Bangladesh to regulate our TV plays. Otherwise, such obscene, lewd, and vulgar shows could not be aired. This kind of TV plays has a negative impact on our children as well as youths of the country.
In case of our TV commercials (TVCs), what people see is not what they get. There are many beauty products that assure fair skin, health drinks that guarantee increased height or weight and food products that claim to be fat-free or contain high quantities of nutrients. In reality, none of these products delivers what they promise. It looks like there is no organisation in the country to look into these issues. We urge the authorities concerned to form a board which will regulate the TV plays and TVCs broadcast by different channels.
