Need for safer parks

My daughter and I were taking our regular stroll in the President Shahabuddin Park at Gulshan recently when we noticed a commotion involving the police, Sir Frank Peters, a campaigner against corporal punishment, and an alleged mugger. Out of curiosity, we stopped, listened to squabbles and took some pictures.
As we learnt, Rajowl, a friend of Sir Frank, had been sitting on a park bench when a young man approached him to go to the opposite bench where two youths were sitting, as they wanted to talk to him. As Rajowl asked why he should do that, the young man said they would beat him up if he didn't oblige. Rajowl refused and one of the two youths shouted and ordered him to go over, or he would knife him. Rajowl again refused. The youths made their exit as Sir Frank approached and Rajowl explained what had just happened. During a walk in the park, they came across the youths again. They then informed the police who apprehended and questioned the alleged muggers. The youths begged apology, but Sir Frank Peters replied, "For all I know you could have mugged or threatened 100 innocent victims before we arrived".
Before leaving, Sir Frank Peters shook hands and thanked each of the four police officers for their prompt action.
As a regular user of the park, I express sincere thanks to Sir Frank and Rajowl for their efforts to make it a safer place for all.
