Negative effects from Indian drama serials

September 26, 2018 00:00:00

A few days back, while waiting outside a doctor's chamber along with other patients, I tried to concentrate on the television in the room. A Hindi serial was going on. Most of the ladies waiting in the room, along with the doctor's assistant, were virtually immersed into the show.

Despite Hindi being a foreign language, it is apparent that audiences of these shows can understand the language quite well. The addiction of most viewers to these serials is having a negative effect on the society. Local dresses in the shopping malls are named after characters in the Indian television serials. The viewers of these shows do not want to miss a single episode. To gain similar level of popularity, nowadays local drama serials are also imitating the loud acting, lavish costumes and pointless sequences.

This trend needs to change. It should be remembered that for a long time, Bangladeshi drama serials were watched and loved by viewers in many countries of South Asia and beyond. The producers of local drama serials need to keep this in mind. They should come up with unique stories, concepts and cinematography that will attract the audiences again.
