New Covid strain spreading - be alert!

January 30, 2024 00:00:00

Although the impact of the coronavirus epidemic has somewhat diminished, the world is still not free from its danger. The virus responsible for this, Covid-19, is constantly mutating. Its latest form, which has spread to more than fifty countries, has been named the JN-1 strain by scientists. This variant has also spread in Bangladesh and neighbouring India. It can cause infections very quickly. It is known that about 700 people have been infected with the coronavirus in January alone, with the number of cases of the JN-1 strain increasing rapidly.

Meanwhile, the detection rate has risen to 9 per cent based on tests. In such a situation, health experts fear that the infection rate may increase by the middle of next month. Experts have advised everyone to wear masks again and take various precautions. The elderly, chronically ill and those at high risk of infection are advised to take a booster dose of the vaccine.

According to estimates, more than 2 million people have been infected with the coronavirus in Bangladesh so far, with more than 29 thousand deaths. It is believed that many more cases and deaths remain unaccounted for. In such a situation, it is necessary to properly address the threat of new coronavirus spread. Not only is coronavirus a concern, but public health is under tremendous threat for various reasons. The health ministry and other relevant authorities should remain watchful against the ever-evolving Covid and take proactive preventive measures.

Experts are also pointing out that individuals have the ability to prevent the spread of possibly more dangerous virus variants. The greater the spread of a virus within a population, the higher the likelihood of mutations. By protecting ourselves and others against COVID-19, we need to actively contribute to the prevention of new variants from emerging.
