New dimension to road accidents

January 20, 2021 00:00:00

In a city like Dhaka plagued by traffic congestion, an increase in the use of motorbike has brought some relief to the commuters. Also, in other parts of the country, people are increasingly using motorcycles to move fast avoiding other modes of vehicles.

However, it's frustrating to know that motorbikes account for 35 per cent of the road accidents. Already, some city commuters were complaining about the reckless driving by a major section of motorcyclists and their use of footpaths.

Such a situation is not expected. In fact, motorbikes and bicycle can help reduce traffic congestion. A lot of youths now want to use these modes of vehicles and working people have to use them for convenience. What is necessary is some kind of training and motivation for these people alongside drivers and their assistants on road safety issues.
