NEWSPAPER was first invented in Europe and first came out in Venice in the form of a few handwritten news sheets which was circulated in Venice as early as 1566. These weekly newspapers were filled with information on war and politics in Italy and Europe. The first printed newspapers came out in Germany in 1609. Ever since the first newspaper saw the light of the day it has been a regular companion of countless men and women around the world who not only had glimpses of happenings around the world every day but could also enrich their knowledge through comprehensive write-ups. Sadly the number of newspapers and periodicals is declining and many of the world's leading dailies had to be closed down due to decreasing readership. Modern electronic media and the internet have stolen the show. The appeal of visual media is getting stronger every day and we may soon have to part with traditional newspapers and opt for e-papers. The more serious newspaper readers will however find it difficult to adjust themselves with the latest offshoot of digital technology.
