No entry without permission

October 05, 2020 00:00:00

The government has imposed restriction on entry of outsiders into government and non-government college campuses. The principals of the colleges were asked to ensure such entry restriction, according to order issued in the wake of the recent gang-rape incident on MC College campus in Sylhet. Unfortunately, women fell victim to violence and assault by 'powerful' outsiders on the campus in the past.

If the government order is followed, and if there is no outsider on the premises/hostels, students, teachers and staff of the college would get a safer environment. Obviously, close monitoring of the activities and movement of all concerned is also necessary to ensure a safe campus in the interest of academic atmosphere.

It's a national shame that women are still vulnerable in a society which witnessed an appreciably rising literacy rate over the decades. So, we've some serious flaws in our education including learning in family. Of course, there has been significant improvement in overall social attitudes towards girls and women. However, many of those who have powerful positions and illicit money hardly bother about the respect for fellow human beings. That is where society needs to give attention to, for eradicating the issue of rape and other crimes.
