Nobel laureates visit Rohingya camps

THREE Nobel laureates visited Cox's Bazar Rohingya camps recently to see for themselves the plight of Rohingas who fled Rakhine state of Myanmar and took shelter in Bangladesh. Claiming that Aung San Suu Kyi has chosen to turn a blind eye to the genocide taking place in her country to retain her political power, one of the above three Nobel laureates Shirin Ebadi of Iran said that she has sold her soul to the devil.
The initiatives of the Nobel Prize winners were indeed praiseworthy because of their high status on the world platform. They are world celebrities and the world will get an authentic picture of the barbaric torture perpetrated against the Rohingyas by the Myanmar army. They were of the view that the atrocities unleashed against Rohingyas are tantamount to genocide and promised the matter should be taken up by the International Criminal Court (ICC). They also were critical of absolute silence and inaction of another winner of Nobel Peace Prize Aung San Suu Kyi on a purely humanitarian issue like this. We sincerely hope that the three Nobel peace prize winners will succeed in bringing sanity to the top leaders of Myanmar administration and ensuring quick repatriation of the unfortunate Rohingyas to their homeland.
