Nurturing startup potential
April 08, 2022 00:00:00
The number of startups in Bangladesh has been growing steadily amid an increase in global funding. If nurtured well, they can bring about revolutionary changes for a country's economy. The USA can be a perfect example for that. Start-ups like Facebook, Airbnb, Uber, PayPal and many others began their journey from the states.
Startups are all about young people. If we look at famous startup entrepreneurs who boost the startup world, we will find 80 per cent of them are young in age. However, most of our young people do not want to take risk and prefer a stable job rather than becoming an entrepreneur.
To make these young people skilled and encouraged in startups, the authorities concerned can take some measures. At the university-level, we can launch workshops and various events so that students can feel an urge to open up their own startup ventures. The universities should announce reward for different kinds of competitions over submission of startup ideas. The winner ideas could be funded by the government. Our private sector can also help them by sponsoring such events.
