The University of Chittagong, like many other public universities in Bangladesh, doesn't provide email accounts to undergraduate students. Though master students can get an official email account, they are subject to certain rigid conditions. Due to the non-availability of official email accounts, students are deprived of many benefits. Suppose the university authorities give a student an official email ID, he or she will get some facilities like free access to online educational courses, research papers and some software (like Microsoft 365). Moreover, when a student with an official email account sends an email to a foreign professor, he or she may prioritise the email. On the other hand, many good journals don't give free access to the papers in the absence of an official email ID. So, a student has to pay a good amount of money that is not affordable. But whenever he has a student email account, he can easily get access to those journals.
Considering all the benefits students will reap from having an official email account, the University of Chittagong should give student accounts to its undergraduate students. It should also relax the conditions for master's students to be eligible for the student email account.
