Opportunities in emerging fast food industry

The fast-food industry has been booming over the last few decades across the world. In Bangladesh, it gained popularity around the mid-1980s when people began adapting their habits and lifestyles with that of the West. The local fast food sector saw a boom around the 1990s and early 2000s as some world-renowned brands like A&W, KFC and Pizza Hut opened outlets in Dhaka.
Since then, the competition in the local fast food industry has been on the rise. People's tendency to have meals in the cafes and restaurants has increased immensely over the years.
Although fast food business is a risky one, more and more young entrepreneurs are turning up with such venture. As a result, the sector is creating job opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers. Many college and university students are getting part-time job opportunities in the fast-growing industry.
Fast food restaurants purchase their ingredients (like meat, vegetables etc) from local sources. So, it is also helping the local economy.
However, there are some negative aspects, too. The quality of some of the food items is at times highly questionable. Often, fast food items are blamed for various diseases including diabetes and hypertension. If complied with proper regulations and quality is maintained, the local fast food industry has the potential to contribute significantly to the country's economy.
