SARGODHA, Pakistan, June 23 (AFP): A Pakistani court Wednesday concluded the trial of five Americans charged with terrorism and is expected to announce its verdict in the next 24 hours, lawyers said.
"The trial was concluded today and the judge has said that he will announce his decision sometime tomorrow," defence lawyer Hassan Katchela told AFP.
"We hope that they will be acquitted," Katchela said.
Public prosecutor Nadeem Akram Cheema said the government would appeal any acquittal.
Aged 19 to 25, the Americans have been on trial in a closed anti-terrorism court behind prison walls in the eastern city of Sargodha, where they were arrested in December on charges of plotting a terror attack.
Seven charges were filed against Umar Farooq, Waqar Hussain, Rami Zamzam, Ahmad Abdullah Mini and Amman Hassan Yammer.
