Peace deserves a chance

February 27, 2015 00:00:00

Political turmoil in the country continues despite serious efforts from the civil society and intelligentsia. International initiatives to resolve the impasse have also failed to produce any results so far. Repeated calls from the United Nations have also fallen flat on the ruling party. And the inevitable result of it has started raising its ugly head. Public life is disrupted and the economy is in tatters. Every attempt by the ruling party to squash the movement by force has failed adding a new dimension to the political movement of the opposition. An uncanny feeling of fear and uncertainty pervades society. Common people are falling victim to the stubbornness of the two main political opponents. The situation has reached a stage when every man thinks twice before stepping out of home. When they do so, they move out with life in their palms, as every one has to go out because they have several mouths to feed.  Political unrest has thrown our life in total disarray.

Despite mounting pressure on the government to sit in a dialogue, the government is reluctant to accede to the pressure causing strong resentment from different quarters and the common people.  If the government is unable to restore peace and stability in the country, there could be no reason why it should continue to rule. I hope, the veteran leaders of the ruling party will put some sense in its leadership so that they choose the path of dialogue and negotiation.
