People recognise their leaders
October 19, 2020 00:00:00
Jacinda Ardern has been a familiar face around the world since the attack on mosque in Christchurch and the New Zealand Prime Minister was widely applauded for her direct support to Muslims during Friday prayers. Some people thought her to be naïve for the way she tackled the situation. She once proved her leadership during the Covid-19 that infected only a small number of people in her country.
Jacinda Ardern has now won an election as she led her Labour Party to victory. She united her people who stood by her while choosing their leadership. Her party secured more than 50 per cent vote but not all 120 seats in a majoritarian game in modern democracy. Proportional representation would give her party 64 seats. We may learn something from her leadership and the practice in her country.
