Poor school governance

December 06, 2019 00:00:00

When quality of education is being questioned, governing bodies of different educational institutions reportedly came under criticism for deteriorating atmosphere. At the tertiary level, teachers' politics is blamed for lack of focus on improving quality of education. At the secondary and college levels across the country, the managing committees are in most cases making interference into recruitment, infrastructure building and operations of the educational institutions.

Historically in this part of the world, educational institutions were built by philanthropists who cared for education and also the ones who patronised education in society were made members of managing committees. But in recent decades, powerful people found their positions in such committees. Even some educational institutions were made to provide their relatives with jobs. As a nation, we need to take a decision if the education sector should be used for presenting jobs or dedicated to research and building human resources.
