Power of punctuation

In an English class of a college, the teacher wrote the following sentence on the black board and asked the students to punctuate it. The sentence written was:

"A woman without her man is nothing."

Some punctuated it as follows: "A woman, without her man is nothing." Others wrote, "A woman: without her, man is nothing."

Let us evaluate the number of these two different sets of punctuations and find out who wrote them. Interestingly, all the boys wrote the first one, while all the girls wrote the second one. Can we guess where did the proverb "the hand that rocks the cradle, rules the earth" come from?
