MOSCOW, Sept 25 (AFP): A powerful blast in the Georgian separatist region of Abkhazia on Thursday inflicted "significant damage" to buildings, but caused no casualties, Russian news agencies reported, citing officials.
"A powerful explosive device detonated near the Abkhaz secret service building in Sukhumi," the capital of separatist Abkhazia, Interfax news agency reported, quoting the head of the local secret service Yury Ashuba.
Ashuba blamed the attack on Georgian secret services, the report said.
The explosion wrought "significant damage" on the building and the nearby offices of the interior ministry and shattered the windows of houses in the area, but there were "no casualties," Interfax reported.
Officials said a car filled with explosives was parked near the interior ministry and secret service offices in Sukhumi late on Wednesday and the blast went off at around 4:00 am (0000 GMT).
