Eid ul Fitr is only a few weeks away and soon the city dwellers will be on a shopping spree and it will create an extra traffic pressure on the roads. I usually prefer to shop at night when the traffic is thinner and the atmosphere is relatively less noisy. But most people are unwilling to shop at night because of security concerns. I hope the Dhaka metropolitan police will beef up security measures at night in the capital during Ramadan so that the shoppers can go out freely and shop at night. There is a huge traffic jam immediately before Iftar everyday so much so that often people have to take Iftar on the road. Furthermore, many roads are broken and left un-repaired in a state that hinders normal traffic movement. The situation further worsens when there is rain and many more roads become inaccessible. We often see the cars are parked on the road near shopping centres haphazardly that creates obstruction on the road and impedes normal movement of traffic. I hope, the traffic authority will be more active to solve this perennially acute problem.
