Prepaid system for gas use

The use of gas for various purposes is increasing day by day. However, gas reserves in Bangladesh are not increasing proportionately.

One of the main causes for gas crisis in the country is the misuse of gas. It is sad that many people still do not turn off their gas burners only to save a matchstick. As the bill is fixed, it does not matter to most people whether you keep burning your stove all day long or not. Some people keep gas stoves burning during the winter months to warm their houses. Some of them even dry up their clothes by using gas stoves.

The authorities concerned can prevent this wastage by implementing prepaid system for gas use. They should immediately introduce prepaid metres to stop the wastage. Besides, the consumers should also realise the importance of gas and use it economically.
