Preparedness against dengue outbreak

Even before the onset of the monsoon, the number of dengue patients is rising alarmingly in Dhaka city. Official records show that at least 45 dengue patients have so far been hospitalised across Bangladesh in May. And experts fear that the number may rise further in the coming months during the rainy season.
The only way we can deal with the contagious disease is to destroy Aedes mosquito's breeding grounds before they become uncontrollable. In doing that the city corporation authorities should target areas with high prevalence of dengue infection, and spray larvicide and adulticide. Meanwhile, they should continue to create public awareness about dengue, too. They can also involve medical entomologists in their prpgrammes to fight Aedes mosquitoes.
