Preserving weaving industry
August 17, 2023 00:00:00
We have a rich history of weaving. Handlooms occupied a special place as a cottage industry not only in Bangladesh but also in foreign trade during the pre-British period. The weavers acquired their unique skills reflected through their work passed through generations. However, things have changed by now, and people now no longer want to take weaving as a profession. The number of weavers is decreasing day by day in Bangladesh.
Currently, our ancient handloom weaving industry is sinking into oblivion. But the demand of this industry is still there. If we take initiatives immediately, we will be able to regain its lost glory. This requires proper patronage, business planning and public-private cooperation. We hope the authorities concerned will take early measures to address the issue.
