March 29, 2011 00:00:00

ABIDJAN, Mar 28: Fighters backing recognised president Alassane Ouattara launched Monday their biggest offensive yet to seize control of western Ivory Coast, attacking a key town held by his presidential rival. Fierce fighting raged throughout the morning in the strategic town of Duekoue as pro-Ouattara forces attempted to wrest it from forces loyal to strongman Laurent Gbagbo, representatives from both camps said. Two men from Gbagbo's side were killed and the others had retreated to their base, a soldier from that camp said. - AFP
