Productive use of city wastes

Aamir Khan, the superstar of Indian movie-world, often makes an expose of various problems in the media being faced by ordinary people in daily life. He also presents various aspects of problems commoners face. Recently, he along with his team, including several experts, showed how our daily municipal garbage could be used for making useful products.
The city garbage could be segregated into solid waste, plastic items, kitchen rubbish and organic garbage. Plastic garbage can be converted into road construction material, kitchen rubbish into fertilisers and some inorganic wastes in making gas for cooking. Acres of lands are needed to dump all these municipal garbage but the process developed will save acres of lands in one hand and make products of great value on the other.
Should we not do something in this respect following the example of India as reported in details about the cost and benefits? Many ventures are being taken by Dhaka City Corporation but the result is yet to be seen. The authority may look into the matter seriously considering our limited resources for greater interest of our population. We should do something in reality following Aamir Khan's TV show.
