Protect press freedom

It is indeed alarming to know that the government is out to suffocate the voice of free press in the name of a national broadcast policy. The media will not be able to publish anything "demeaning" the law enforcing agency members. We often hear reports of corruption existing in the law enforcing agencies-the recent incident in Narayanganj is a glaring example. In the name of protecting public interest, it looks the government wants to ensure their own interest.
The draft prepared by the government has already received strong opposition. Bangladesh has a strong press and I believe it will not accept anything that strangulates its freedom. No one should be above the law, be they law enforcing members, members of the armed forces or journalists. There should be no special treatment for anyone. In absence of a free press the nation will go back to medieval age.
