Protecting human rights
January 03, 2018 00:00:00
OURS is a country of communal harmony where people of all religions have been living with a spirit of peace and fraternity among themselves. Everyone enjoys equal rights in society. The constitution of the country allows everyone irrespective of religion to observe our social, cultural and religious rites with full freedom. The constitution also provides opportunity of equal human rights for all citizens.
But sadly, there had been violations on this front. Incidents of torture and killing of one group by another had been taking place across the country and lives of victims could not be protected and made secure. As we go through the newspapers and watch TV channels, we learn about these tragic incidents of human rights violations. Another aspect that leaves us in pain and agony at the end of the day is lack of safety and security for women in the country. Safety and security of women will have to be ensured at all costs. On the other hand, we shall be failing in our duty towards the country if we lag behind in providing primary education for all children.
Last year, the state of human rights in the country, particularly women's security, had not been a pleasant one. This year we should organise all our might and resources to ensure basic rights for the citizens regardless of sex, religion and culture.
