LOS ANGELES, June 24 (AFP): Around 2,500 protestors demonstrated in California Saturday as Vietnam President Nguyen Minh Triet wound up a landmark trip to the United States, police and officials said.
Demonstrators chanting "No communists, no communists, no communists" and waving the old flag of South Vietnam gathered outside the gated resort where Triet stayed overnight Friday before meeting local business leaders Saturday.
Police in riot gear monitored the protests, which were largely peaceful, Orange County sheriff's department officer Jeff Foster said.
