Public transport in disarray

It is sad that Dhaka, a city of 16 million people, has a very poor public transport system. We still have to depend on the vehicles like rickshaws which are not compatible with modern age. As a result, private cars are now aplenty and the number is mounting. People are buying private cars indiscriminately creating additional pressure on the already unbearable traffic congestion in the city. I think, this is where the government should step in immediately. It should draw a road communication network inside the city taking into account the demands of the commuters and develop a fast and efficient inter city transport system to carry the commuters to places. This will enable people to go to places conveniently as and when they want and discourage them to buy private vehicles. Whenever we go out we see too many private cars choking the life out of our traffic. Many roads are in bad shape and traffic movement is slowed down. If the roads in our capital are not well maintained traffic situation can not be improved. We have now two new mayors and the city dwellers look forward to seeing some positive changes. It is high time we all made a collective effort and make our city a liveable place for us and our future generation.
