Our education no longer guarantees good jobs. Thousands of university graduates are still jobless due to an absence of decent opportunities. Bangladesh is one of the top countries that has the highest rate of unemployed educated. Graduates are struggling hard in the job market as the conventional education system does not equip students with the skills industries demand.
We now have many educational institutions and diverse learning opportunities. Still, we are not yet able to ensure jobs for a large portion of our fresh graduates on completion of their campus life. Students are passing examinations one after another but they are not getting their desired jobs possibly because our education system is still theory-based rather than suited to reality.
It is high time our universities woke up to the reality and focussed not only on education and degrees but also on necessary training for their students. These higher educational institutions should collaborate with private sector entities to convert our youths into a skilled human capital. In order to do so, the authorities concerned should undertake a number of programmes for our university students so that they can easily be picked up by the job-market.
