Question paper leaks frustrate general students

Question paper leakage has become a serious problem. Previously, there were allegations of leaking school, college, and university admission test questions through various websites and social media platforms. However, in a surprising revelation, a private television channel reported that questions for the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exams have also been leaked. This issue spans the 33rd BCS and the 46th BCS exams. Additionally, questions for the recruitment exam of 516 railway posts held last Friday were also leaked.
According to the report, about 30 recruitment exam questions for both BCS cadre and non-cadre positions under the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) have been allegedly leaked. It points to senior PSC officials' involvement in the leaks.
Students in Bangladesh used to believe that question papers of BCS exams were not leaked at least. Those who held such belief are now at a loss to express their frustration. This situation highlights a lack of leadership, proper supervision and moral decay at every stage, from the stage of preparing question papers to their distribution at examination centers.
The issue of question paper leaks cannot be taken lightly. When the highest public recruitment examination in Bangladesh, the BCS, is compromised, it undermines the integrity of the entire system. Those involved in the question paper leak racket not only deprive the nation's talented students but also steal crores of taka.
The leakage of question papers severely affects meritorious students. A student who works hard only to fail in securing a job, while another lands a job seemingly effortlessly, experiences deep disappointment and frustration. This frustration can destroys the students' motivation and intelligence.
In our country, two types of question paper leaks are observed: one occurring a day or two before the exam, and another a few hours before the exam begins. We demand strict laws to prevent the leakage of question papers and variation in their distribution. The most effective step would be to enact a 'Prevention of Question Paper Leakage Act' and ensure its proper implementation. Additionally, other preventive measures and proper monitoring of the internal operations of test centers should be ensured.
