Rain: Boon and bane
June 17, 2015 00:00:00
Rain brought some relief to the city dwellers as they have been languishing under extreme summer heat. But along with some relief, the rain has also brought some miseries for the people as traffic congestion deteriorates and water-logging takes place in various parts of the city during and after rain. Many roads of Dhaka are half broken and they cause more difficulties for traffic movement during rain.
The new mayors have assured they would repair the damaged roads within a short time and I hope they will able to fulfil their pre-election pledges and bring the desired changes in the city. When rain comes, the city becomes unfit for the commuters in no time and transports become rare and expensive adding to the sufferings of city dwellers. Water drainage system of our capital is very poor and should be improved to reduce the sufferings of the people. Dhaka is at the bottom of the list of most liveable cities in the world which is unfortunate. The citizens also have a role to play if they want to see improvement of the present situation. I hope it is high time we woke up from our collective inaction and apathy.
