Rain, waterlogging marred the festivity mood

July 23, 2015 00:00:00

Non-stop rain during the Eid holidays dampened the holiday mood of the citizens as most amusement parks and entertainment places like restaurant, movie theatres, museum and historical places were not as crowded as were expected due to continuous downpour. It was difficult for the people to come out of the house. Most people stayed indoors and watched television. It is well known that when heavy rain takes place, the city goes under water at many places and it is risky to commute. This time rain completely washed away Dhaka city and kept the citizens within the four walls. Many people had to cancel their plans to go out of Dhaka. Now we have two new Mayors, and the city dwellers are looking forward to see some real improvement in the city.  Dhaka is a mega city with a population of 16 million, but compared to its size of population the infrastructure is inadequate and poorly maintained. People living in low-lying areas in particular are the worst affected lot in any weather or atmospheric hazards. It is not easy for the Mayors to solve the problems overnight, but they will surely find the citizens behind them if they can plan well and implement the same to reduce peoples' sufferings.
