Ramadan, price hike and suffering

The holy month of Ramadan is only one and a half months away and every year we see the prices of essentials go up during this month creating sufferings for common people. We see prices going down and big discounts offered for the customers in the western world just before a big festival. But sadly, instead of low price and discount our consumers are burdened with exorbitant price hikes. It has become a common practice in our country that just before any major festival, for example Ramadan, the prices of some items go up by two/three times.
Ramadan is a holy month for the Muslims around the world. It is a period of self-restraint and religious rites. Ironically, during this month we see some unscrupulous traders hoard goods and make a windfall gain at the cost of the common people. The law enforcers must speed up their drive against these hoarders, so that they do not dare to create an artificial crisis of commodities. Every year we hear successive governments saying that the prices will be under control during the Ramadan, but we see the same situation being repeated over the years. I hope, this Ramadan will bring about a real change and people will be able to spend the holy Ramadan in peace. They will not be fleeced by unscrupulous traders.  It is high time the government played an effective role and saved the common people from being harassed by unscrupulous businessmen.
