Ramadan: The month of humanity

February 23, 2026 00:00:00

During Ramadan, people from all walks of life strive to live better lives, showing patience, compassion and generosity, while enjoying wholesome meals at Sehri and Iftar. It is a time when families gather, hearts soften and people are reminded of the values of empathy and charity. Yet, amid this spiritual reflection, many destitute people living on city sidewalks or in remote villages struggle to access proper meals. The rising prices of daily necessities, combined with their meagre incomes, make it almost impossible for them to buy the essential food items needed to break their fast. As a result, some are forced to fast without eating, while others manage Iftar with only water or dry bread, facing hunger and discomfort.

It is a moral and social responsibility for those who are better off to extend a hand of humanity and support these people. At the same time, the authorities must take effective steps to regulate prices of daily commodities so that everyone, regardless of income, can observe Ramadan with dignity, respect and peace of mind.
