Record foreign remittance in July

Foreign remittance reached a record high $1.48 billion in July and it is good news for our economy. This is possibly because the expatriates sent money for their family on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr, and I am sure at the next Eid Ul Azha the record will be reset as during that period the migrants send more money for their families than any other time of the year.
Our foreign reserves have crossed 21.04 billion US dollar mark, and it is keeping an upward trend. If political stability is ensured our economy will go from strength to strength in the future; but any kind of instability will jeopardise the ongoing progress. Gradually the number of Bangladeshis who are going abroad is decreasing as the government has failed to create overseas job opportunities for the Bangladeshis. Most of those who are going abroad are going on their own initiatives.
We must keep a steady flow of manpower export as it is a major lifeline of our economy. The government should show alacrity and explore new destinations for young Bangladeshis who are eager to go out and change their luck. At the same time we should encourage the expatriates to invest their hard earned money in a productive way so that the country can benefit to the maximum and so can the migrants themselves. So the government needs to create a favourable investment climate in the country.
