Reducing intake of salt

October 14, 2021 00:00:00

When it comes to dietary sodium, less is certainly the best. Yet we, Bangladeshis, consume 50 per cent more than the recommended daily quantities of sodium, according to a study. Diets high in sodium increase blood pressure levels. High blood pressure damages the kidneys over time, and is a leading cause of kidney failure. High blood pressure can also raise your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

The good news is that cutting down on sodium can help lower your blood pressure or keep it at a healthy level. To eat less sodium, you do not have to make lots of changes at once. Just avoid adding salt while having bhat (rice) as lunch or dinner.
