Reducing private schools' fees
July 18, 2022 00:00:00
There are some private schools in Dhaka city, where competent teachers impart education in a good environment. These schools, which are mostly English medium schools, are working hard to create better future for children. And hence parents cooperate with these schools to ensure that their children are provided with the best. But it is pertinent to note here that only children hailing from the upper class or an upper middle class background are able to avail of such education. Children belonging to the middle- and low-income segment cannot afford tuition fees of these schools.
On the other hand, where private schools do provide good education, they have become a profit-making entity. The only other option for children coming from low-income groups is government schools. Most of them are, however, ill-equipped to provide good education. The environment of these schools is not conducive to good education. And their facilities are highly inadequate. In view of this, the authorities concerned should make the government schools as good as the private ones. And private schools should be asked to reduce their fees so that everyone, irrespective of social class, can have access there.
