Registration for train tickets

Bangladesh Railway has made registration mandatory for anyone who wants to collect tickets for inter-city express trains. For registration, one will need to submit name, phone number and a photocopy of national ID card (NID) or birth registration certificate. In case of online ticket collection, one needs to use number of NID or birth registration number.
This has already been effective for those who are planning to travel from March 20 and onwards. At this stage, passengers have to follow this system while collecting tickets for eight out of 33 inter-city express trains of the country.
A person can buy four tickets at a time using one NID or birth registration number, which can only be used once a day.
This is surely a good step. The Bangladesh Railway started this provision with Sonar Bangla Express from the beginning of this year. Positive response received from this has encouraged them to extend the facility to seven more trains. These are Suborno, Mahanagar Godhuly, Mahanagar Probhati, Padma, Chitra, Parabat and Drutojan Express.
Many may not like such a provision set by the Bangladesh Railway. But this will have positive effects. This will reduce black marketing of tickets. Also security will be tightened as the authority will now know details of each passengers of the train.
We hope we will see good results of this system in the upcoming Eid seasons when there will be huge demand for train tickets.
