Registration of Mobile SIM: Good initiative

Mobile phone or cell phone has become a part of our daily necessity. Nowadays almost everyone has a mobile phone as it is cheap and affordable. You will hardly come across any one who does not own a mobile phone. As the mobile phone has unfolded a new era of interpersonal communication, it has also provided an extra window for the criminals to blackmail people and extort money from them. Often we learn from various sources that innocent people are being harassed with the help of mobile phones. Kidnapping and other crimes are also committed by using mobile phones. These phones are mostly unregistered and can not be tracked by enforcing agencies. I think the decision of the government to ensure registration of all mobile SIMs is a positive move, as it will cut down the crime rate and enable the concerned authorities to immediately identify the criminals as and when a crime is committed. The government should inform the people of the re-registration drive, so that they can re-register their SIMs and use them uninterruptedly. Around 120 million mobile SIMs are being used in our country with one person using more than one mobile SIM. It is known that about 70 per cent SIMS are unregistered which is alarming.
